SCHNAUZERLAND
MINIATURE SCHNAUZERS
In
our breeding of Miniature Schnauzers, we breed for temperament first and
foremost.
We
have been breeding our miniatures for the past 21 years, working hard to
create what we consider to be the very best companion pet that you can
have. All of our breeding dogs are selected for their fantastic personalities.
We keep back puppies to grow up and watch temperament, personality and
appearance. We grade these puppies harshly for the traits we are breeding
for. This ensures that their offspring are the kind of companion pet that
you have come to expect from Schnauzerland. This kind of breeding program
is necessary to produce puppies that are exceptionally sweet, calm, and
good-natured. We want all of our puppies to greet everyone with a wagging
tail and easy going demeanor.
Our
puppies are not yippy, snappy or fearful. In fact, they think everyone
has come to see them personally and always welcome a new visitor to play.
(Do keep in mind that if you do not keep your puppy socialized with people,
pets and children that they bond to you and their behavior can change because
of not being socialized!) It is important to maintain your schnauzer’s
socialization skills. We ask that soon after you purchase your new puppy
that you find an obedience class to enroll in. This helps you learn how
to properly train your puppy and also helps your puppy with their obedience
and social skills. You may be amazed if you follow the guidelines of the
teacher; your puppy will be at the top of its class.
We
produce several litters per year. We breed to produce companion pets only,
they come into your home considering themselves equal members of your
family. They have never been told that they were "dogs".
Our
puppies are sold on a limited registration, meaning if you decide to breed
a dog purchased from Schnauzerland, any puppies produced CAN NOT BE REGISTERED.
If you are looking for a schnauzer to breed, please look elsewhere, as
ours are sold to be loved members of your household, and your very best
friend. There are several reasons our dogs are sold with limited registration:
Any
dog we have sold to you is meant to be a beloved family member and friend.
Breeding any animal can result in complications and/or problems, including
death to the puppies and/or mother.
This also keeps our bloodlines from being
mixed with dogs, which do not have Schnauzerland temperament. This ensures
that our name is not associated with ill-tempered or poorly bred, unhealthy
dogs.
Limiting registration prevents excessive
litters being born and thus ending up in shelters or rescues.
Please understand that we are concerned
for the lifelong well being of the new baby you are getting from us.
Our miniature schnauzers come in
Many Colors:
We
have Salt & Pepper, Black, Parti Salt and Pepper and Parti Black. We
have just added Black & Silver to our breeding program, and we may
get an occasional white.
|
Salt & Pepper is the
most common color. Salt & Pepper is banded hairs in shades of gray
or black with lighter white or whitish markings. This is the standard.
Our Salt & Pepper puppies are more
of a steel/blue gray, hardly any banding of the colors, mostly a solid
gray that lightens to a more pewter gray ranging from pale silver to a
dark charcoal. The white markings on the Salt and Pepper are a nice bright
white. Their coat is very heavy and soft, and sometimes they even have
a wavy curl to their coat!
|

|
Black is self-explanatory.
According to the standards, any solid black may have white on the chest
and/or toes.
Our black puppies sometimes have heavy
white on toes and/or chest. Again, all colors tend to fade or lighten as
the years go by.
|

|
Black and silver - solid
black with white markings on the eyebrows, the beard, chest, and furnishings.
|

|
Parti - any color on white.
The parti colors include Salt & pepper, Black, Liver, Black & Silver.
At this time, we are producing Salt & Pepper and Black Parties.
|

The
American Kennel Club recognizes in the show ring only three of the many
colors produced in miniature schnauzers. These are Salt & Pepper, Black
and Black & Silver. Other colors can be registered, but they can not
be shown. There is nothing wrong with the other colors as many like to
argue. They are 100% schnauzer genes, in fact, Parti and the other colors
are extremely "old blood", found in many and most of the early lines. The
standards were set when a group of enthusiasts decided they liked this
or that and thus "outlawed" any "off" color. Actually, Salt & Pepper
was the very first to be standardized, Black and Black & Silver were
not so graciously accepted at first.
Again
our kennel is not a show kennel. We produce these old colors because we
find them striking to look at and think it would be a shame if their numbers
dramatically decreased because they are not acceptable within show standards.
There is virtually no difference other than coat color. There are no more
or no less problems associated with a White coat vs. a Salt and Pepper
coat or any of the other colors.
Parti
colors are produced only if breeding 2 dogs that carry the Parti gene.
We have read postings and heard from people who really have no idea on
color genetics and they believe the Parti color is achieved by mating a
black dog to a white dog. This is certainly a false assumption!
The
coat texture of our dogs is not your typical "wiry" hair. Our Schnauzers'
coats are extremely soft and thick, and sometimes they can be a little
wavy/curly textured.
The
furnishings and beard tend to be very profuse and very beautiful. Although
this type of coat does require frequent clipping and brushing. Our advice
to anyone purchasing one of our schnauzers is if you don't have time to
brush out your friend, then don’t bathe to begin with. This adds to the
matted area. A washed and dried mat in the hair only gets larger, without
brushing it completely out.
The
size of our adult dogs average around 11" - 14". Weight about 12 to 18
pounds. Very rarely do we produce an oversized mini. However, we have produced,
over the last year, some extremely small minis. The adult size of these
"petite schnauzers" seems to be around 8lbs. and under 10" tall. We produce
very few of these little treasures, and are very picky where they go. They
do not leave here until they are between 3 and 4 months old. This is to
be sure that they are well on their way to a healthy life. Our very first
ones were so tiny to us, that we picked who bought them so that we could
watch them grow up to be sure that they were healthy. We also do not 100%
guarantee their size, but try very hard to give you an accurate estimate
of size.
