The
Angel Project
Sometimes there are puppies
born here with special needs that may cause them to not be our "pick puppies"
but still be wonderful companions, so these puppies are included with
puppies we specifically select for our Special Angel Project to be placed
in Puppy Raiser Homes. We believe
so strongly in all our schnauzers, we want everyone who needs to be blessed
to have access to them. Unfortunately, it is costly to raise these dogs
to the age they are ready for placement with charities, special animal
programs or homes of disabled children or adults.
We
are looking for angels like you to help with the support of these dogs.
With every donation, a photo of you or a photo of your special angel along
with your name and State or Country will be proudly displayed on this site.
A donation to our Angel Project would also be a wonderful way to give blessings
and pay tribute to the memory of some special angel in your life, furry
or not!.............Our goal is to raise these dogs to be lifetime companions
for disabled children or adults. Another option is to train these dogs
for the many other tasks the disabled may need to enhance their quality
of life. The need is great for such well tempered animals but the cost
and time is more than we, at Schnauzerland, can do alone. Consider joining
us in bringing these unique dogs to a disabled person.

Material
and links about this subject:
"The value of animals in
promoting healing and growth has become increasingly recognized among professional
care providers, clinical practitioners, and educators. Today, trained and
certified animal/handler teams are used in medical, psychiatric, rehabilitation,
and special education facilities throughout the world to provide a medium
for assisting individuals where traditional methods fall short.
What makes Animal-Assisted-Therapy
unique is that the real work is done by animals, not humans. Time and again,
our four-footed “therapists” have elicited nearly miraculous responses
from deeply troubled or abused children, physically traumatized hospital
patients, and even those who are terminally ill. We have seen a child use
a hand that was partially paralyzed from illness strive hard and succeed
in stroking a dog’s back. On another occasion, we have seen a dog curled
up contentedly in the arms of a man who had just had a stroke and was very
depressed. Since touch is a powerful sense and speech was unnecessary,
the man smiled as he stroked the dog’s fur. The nurse told us she had never
seen this man smile."
"They are called
service dogs, and the name is well-chosen, for they provide remarkable
kinds of service to people with physical impairments. What the dogs can
do for their human partners is nothing less than amazing. They open doors
– both metaphorically and literally. Wheelchair service dogs help pull
wheelchairs, both powered and manual. If the human can walk but with difficulty,
the service dog can provide balance and counterbalance.
The people who can benefit
from service dogs include individuals with spinal cord injuries, spina
bifida, multiple sclerosis, and muscular dystrophy. Many have multiple
disabilities, such as people who are blind and must use a wheelchair."
Dogs for the Disabled
is a pioneering, dynamic and growing charity which helps disabled people
to increase their independence.
We do this by training specially
selected dogs to live and work with disabled people giving them an enhanced
quality of life.
